Clearly, the mass exit of Kapamilya programs following the cancellation of ABS-CBN’s content creation contract with TV5, which took effect on January 2, has left a noticeable gap in the Kapatid Network’s programming lineup.
In the immediate aftermath, several TV5 shows reportedly suffered significant drops in audience share, with many registering single-digit ratings. Even its flagship action series, Totoy Bato, appeared to take a major hit, recording ratings in the one-point range, making it one of the most affected programs.
Industry observers note that this downward trend could persist, especially with no major new shows airing yet on the network. As early as now, some are already predicting that the upcoming programs starring Andrea Brillantes, Enrique Gil, and Derek Ramsay may struggle to make a strong impact once they finally air.
The situation was further underscored when replay movies were used to fill the former Batang Quiapo timeslot. These reruns reportedly failed to gain traction in the ratings—even during an instance when a particular episode briefly trended online after a screenshot was turned into an art card.
On X (formerly Twitter), reactions from viewers were largely critical of the network’s current direction. Some netizens shared the following sentiments:
“This is the risk of detaching from a powerhouse brand; without the lead-in from loyal Kapamilya viewers, TV5’s struggle to maintain its own brand identity is laid bare.”
“Going 0.something na ’yan soon! Ok na sana audience ng Totoy Bato pero waley. Gusto magsolo. Kaya good luck.”
(The audience of Totoy Bato was okay, but it didn’t last. They wanted to go solo. So, good luck.)
“Naku, paano na sina Blythe niyan? Mukhang hindi na masusundan ang success ng Senior High at Kadenang Ginto.”
(What about Blythe? It seems the success of Senior High and Kadenang Ginto might not be replicated.)
These reactions highlight growing concerns about TV5’s ability to sustain viewership and establish a strong independent identity following the end of its partnership with ABS-CBN.
