Six years after the shutdown, we witnessed the fall of what was once the oldest, biggest, and most advanced broadcast giant of its time — ABS-CBN.
With the loss of its franchise, its long-time rival, GMA Network, took the crown as the number one network in the Philippines, reaching every corner of the nation.
But in a twist no one expected, GMA chose cooperation over rivalry. Despite sitting at the top, the Kapuso Network opened its doors and helped ABS-CBN reconnect with Filipino audiences by airing its programs. This partnership proved that ABS-CBN and GMA are no longer enemies, but collaborators — a genuine media milestone once thought impossible.
Another major development followed. ALLTV2, owned and operated by the Villar family and broadcasting on the former Channel 2 frequency, brought Kapamilya shows back to free TV through a licensing deal between ABS-CBN and AMBS. With this, ABS-CBN made an emotional return to Channel 2 — not as a franchise holder, but through partnership and innovation.
Today, Philippine television has evolved from fierce rivalry into strategic collaboration.
And in that transformation, viewers won.
Cheers to us — Kapamilya, Kapuso, Ka-A2Z, and Ka-ALLTV. ❤️💚💙
