MANILA, Philippines – At 74, most people would be resting at home, gardening, watching television, or spending time with their grandchildren—and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. But for Natividad Rosal, age is no barrier to chasing a dream.
Rosal, known fondly as “Lola Natividad,” made history as the oldest examinee in Baguio during the 2025 Bar Examinations. With remarkable grit, she completed the three-day test and proved that ambition has no age limit.
“There was no retreat, no surrender,” she said.
According to data from the Supreme Court, the 2025 Bar Exams posted a record of 11,425 examinees nationwide—its highest in history. Results are expected to be released on January 7, 2026.
Hailing from Pangasinan, Rosal traveled to the City of Pines to continue a long-standing dream. She shared in an interview with RNG Luzon that this year marked her third attempt, recalling how personal difficulties once forced her to postpone taking the exam, saying, “…hindi ako nakapag-take kasi nagkasakit yung asawa ko.”
Among more than 1,000 Bar hopefuls in Baguio City, Lola Natividad stood out—not just for her age but for her remarkable spirit.
When the Supreme Court announced the 2025 schedule, Rosal immediately registered, determined to sit for what is known as one of the country’s most difficult professional exams. She admitted that the current Bar format posed new challenges compared to her earlier tries, but she pressed on with purpose.
Now retired from her work in the judiciary, Rosal said her motivation today is personal fulfillment rather than employment. “This is for personal fulfillment. I know I can no longer work in government, but I still want to help those in need,” she shared.
Whether her name lands on the list of passers next year remains to be seen—but one thing is already certain: she has inspired many.
Truly, an amazing grandma!
