Veteran broadcaster and former Vice President Noli de Castro is expected to return to ABS-CBN’s flagship primetime newscast, "TV Patrol," after being away from television for more than a year.
The development surfaced on Thursday, July 23, when co-anchor Karen Davila inadvertently hinted at the return of "Kabayan"—de Castro’s widely recognized nickname—during a live broadcast. She suggested that his comeback would coincide with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 27.
“Atsaka sa Monday exiting yan ha, dahil magbabalik… si Kabayan,” Davila said before fellow anchor Alvin Elchico quickly clarified that ABS-CBN had yet to make an official announcement regarding de Castro’s return.
De Castro has been on leave from both "TV Patrol" and his long-running radio program "Kabayan" for over a year due to health-related concerns.
His most recent public appearances were during ABS-CBN News’ special coverage of the 2025 midterm elections and the rebranding of DWPM Radyo 630 back to its historic name, DZMM Radyo Patrol 630.
